Marathon Weekend

No, not a running marathon but a wrestling marathon.  The boys wrestled a JH tourny yesterday.  I was up at 5am and had them on a bus by 6:10am.  Jene and I were on the road right behind the bus and then we all got home at 5pm.  My in-laws came over for dinner for her b-day, we sent the boys to bed at 8:45pm and I was right behind them at 9pm so that I could get up at 5am this morning and do it all over again for club.  Yesterday Hiney came home with a 2nd and J came home with a 4th.  Today J came home with a 1st and Hiney with a 3rd.  J had to wrestle one of his team mates (they are on both the JH and club teams together), that was hard enough to watch let alone the fact that poor Jene was the only coach available for a while and he had to coach both at the same time until another coach came.  He said "well at least the team had a win either way".  Tomorrow we have an away meet and then Wednesday in a home meet.  Thank you Lord for giving us the coming weekend tourny/meet free!

On the way home we stopped at a restraunt that looked interesting...key word interesting.  Not a good choice.  I get so disappointed when we try some where new and it isn't good, I feel such a sense of wasted money.  Not to mention my sensitive digestive system...I have to be a creature of habit and eat what I know will settle OK.

On the way home we saw this at the rivers edge:
I thought Jene was going to crash when he saw it!  He had to turn around and go back.  We watched him for a while and then got to watch the bald eagle fly off...beautiful.

I got the 1860's rocker that we got from an auction last year done this week.  In the make-do spirit I used what I had here and covered it with a rag stuffed flour sack.  I love the way it turned out.

I told you the other day that my dollhouse was built in 1956 and the addition was added in 1986.  I was mistaken, the dates are 1953 and 1982.  You can see where Grandpa signed and dated it if you look hard.

I took some things that I did down to the store in town and while I was there I found this wonderful old quilt.  I ended up doing more of a trade than selling my things, but I think it was a good trade.  This looks great on the blanket ladder that was my mom's.  I won't be cutting this one up.
One more picture.  This is how my goofy dog sleeps...on his back!  Sometimes he's even more on his back and then his front feet stick up.  What a baby.
I am going to try to run with him tomorrow if the weather permits, we both need it.  Tuesday I meet my old co-workers for lunch and to give them each their Valentine goodies.  The other day I got a call from a friend asking if I could take her to and wait for her at a DR appt so Wednesday I will bring lots of projects with me and do that.  I called her later asked if she asked me because she knows I have a high endurance for sitting around waiting (like at tournies) or because she thought I had nothing else to do...she said she knows I have plenty to do so she'd go with the endurance theory.  We have a really fun relationship and I miss being around my two old co-workers (I didn't like being the "boss" though) but I am enjoying being home and available to help my friends and doing more things for my family.

I met J after school the other day after he didn't get his assignment notebook signed the day before.  He was shocked to see me after they called him to the office.  We went around and got all the signatures he needed and found out what he owed for work and projects.  I have signed his notebook after I see that the work is done and he seems to be getting back on track now and is back on the team, still no 'sparkly things' (phone, ipod, tv, video games, soda, sweets) until he has C's but at least he is caring now!  Little stinker.  Lots and lots of good bread I see in my family's future!

Well, I need to go do something mindless now...

Lots of love to all,
Kendra

  1. Love, love, love your new old chair and the quilt!! That flour sack covering was the perfect choice for the chair. And it's so hard to find good old quilts at anything close to a reasonable price. Sounds like intensely long days/weekend...Glad to hear your boys are doing so well - and better yet that J is "straightening up and flying right." Wishing you a wonderful week ahead....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  2. I love that quilt! What a super find. You sound busy, busy! My youngest son was a bear about school work! Can't say I miss those days. LOL
I agree with you on the restaurant thing. We rarely go out to eat, but we did this weekend. We'd always had good experiences there, but this time not so much. It's frustrating. I always think of the wool I could have bought.
    Hugs,
