Good news is we are almost done with John's house and we will be moving his furniture (formerly my grandmother's furniture lol!-I keep having dreams that she comes back and is wondering where all of her stuff is though...hmmmm) tonight after wrestling practices. It is so wonderful to see all the brothers pulling together and helping one another, I know it brings my in-laws extra joy to see all of their hard work in raising the boys come to a head when one is in need, it has been witnessed with each one as needs have arrived with each through the years. We have painted John's entire house, top to bottom, scrubbed EVERYTHING!!! top to bottom, installed new carpet and linolium, new blinds...we still have a bit of drywall to repair and some lights to replace but then we are done and on to the new little ranch that we bought that has been patiently waiting for us to get to work on it.
Christmas with the family was done on New Years Day and was wonderful, good food and great company. My MIL got me a gift cert for my favorite prim store and found these treasures in her basement-LOVE THEM!!!
We were up at The Stone House a week ago and were greeted by 18" of snow!
Just a dusting here in northern IL. Just enough to make ducks not want to go outside lol!
Now, I had said in my last post of the year that I was wanting to change some things in my blog for the new year so here goes! First I am going to try to dedicate Thursdays to blogging, checking in with everyone as best I can and giving more recipes and tips in my posts. For this first post of the new year I just compliled a few little tips that I have found handy over the years.
-Your home improvements stores that cut blinds and shades to whatever size you need just throws out the cut off ends. The ends of the vinyl roll up shades are perfect to roll out and use as a drop cloth so to speak for painting all those smaller craft projects while protecting your table! Plus it's FREE, just ask!
-Our chain home improvement store offers oodles of "free with rebate" items and one of the items they heve offered are these scrubbies
well, if your home is anything like mine, you get the tumbleweeds of dust etc. and many times they get stuck under the wood legs of our table chairs. When I pull them out to sweep or vacuum I just rub the bottom of the legs with the scrubbie to get the tumbleweeds off and then vac. them off the scrubbie and move to the next chair!
-A wonderful wass for your fruits and veggies is 1 part white vinigar and 3 parts water. You can either fill a sink or bowl with this mixture and put your fruit/veggies in there then rinse or spray it on them then rinse.
-When working on the houses, my duty is insulation. Despite wearing gloves I sometimes end up little slivers of fiberglass that I can't even see (or when working in the garden you may get a thistle pricker that can't be seen but can sure be felt!) so I will take a bit of duct tape and put it over the spot where I can fell the sliver and rub it on there, wait a bit while I go about my business or even over night aznd then pull it off and 9.5 times out of 10, no more sliver!
Hope you find something you can use here!
May God bless your new year!

Evening Kendra,
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at your 'just a dusting of snow' in northern, WI...too funny....but you are right...lol
Glad your BIL's place is coming together - it has been a long road for all of you.
I have found the dust bunnies all gether on the legs of my wood chairs too - from moving them in and out...they start to grow slippers of their own - I just use lint roller on mine but your scrubbie sounds good too.
Blessings,
Karen
